In our increasingly connected world, The Circle – a dynamic space for empowering women and girls -shows that through connecting ground-level networks and creative thinking, realchange can happen.
Founded by singer-songwriter and activist Annie Lennox, The Circle is a unique organisation that brings Global Feminists together to create a fairer world for women and girls across the world.
As Annie Lennox says of the mission: “The Circle sprang from the notion that when women support, connect and inspire each other to become advocates and change agents, we can create transformative change.”
From small beginnings in 2008, The Circle has grown into an independent movement of women and allies from all walks of life who are bonded by the desire to live in a world where women and girls have equal rights and equal opportunities.
“We support women-led grassroots organisations across the world working on the frontlines in their communities. From South Sudan and Rwanda to Sri Lanka and DRC, we and our partners have a shared mission to push for economic empowerment and to end violence for women and girls globally.”
The Circle also works hand-in-hand with the Green Carpet Fashion Awards (GFA), an annual event which unites the power of fashion & entertainment to champion interconnected cultural change and also honour young eco-fashion leaders.
GCFA is co-chaired by a host of leading names including, Founder Livia Firth, actresses Cate Blanchett, Helen Hunt, Julianne Moore, Zendaya, Ugandan climate justice activist Vanessa Nakate, Annie Lennox and Sônia Guajajara, Minister of Indigenous People of Brazil.
The selection of the yearly GCFA honorees is based on six cultural archetypes: The Visionary, The Messenger, The Rebel, The Healer, The Sage, The Futurist.
Last year, Annie Lennox led a special presentation to young female leaders at GCFA, for their inspiration activism and interplay between environmental action, civil rights, equality, global feminism and building a better collective future.
Summing up she said: “As a long term activist, global feminist and founder of The Circle NGO, it encourages and inspires me so much to see a new generation of brilliant young women rising up to address solutions to the countless challenges facing women and girls everywhere around the world. This is what Global Feminism is all about! Sisters – doin’ it for themselves!”.
