IndigeDesignLabs has develop into an opportunity-building platform for young people.
“Our mission is to grow the skills and experience of young Indigenous creatives in the design and technology industries of today through real-world opportunities building and experiences,” says Harris. “We seek to develop immersive storytelling in natural and man-made environments through the confluence of art, design, technology, and culture.
“Design skills and tech literacy are fundamental to professional and economic success. Increasing accessibility and diversity in the creative design and digital ecosystem is a critical priority of what we do.”
IndigeDesignLabs’ reach extends beyond the realm of design alone. Their current endeavour, the “I am Here” project, focuses on capturing the portraits of esteemed elders in the Cairns region. This initiative celebrates the wisdom and contributions of the older generation and highlights the significance of spending time with and respecting elders.
“The tapestry of our belonging and the vibrant threads of our cultures are intimately entwined in the life stories of our Elders. In a world often veiled by artificiality, the true essence of belonging unfurls when we embrace the real-time connection with those who carry the wisdom of the past, binding our hearts in a dance of shared experiences and timeless journeys.”
