Emmanuel Edwards born and raised in Nigeria, now lives in Sierra Leone. He has always possessed an innate love for fashion. From his early years, he was inspired by local tailors who created pieces that reflected African roots and created unique designs transforming fabrics into art. Driven by an insatiable passion to inspire the world, he set out on a transformative journey, and in 2019 embarked on a daring venture to establish his own fashion brand, Manikénè.
His quest for knowledge led him to Ghana, where he pursued formal education in fashion. Immersed in the vibrant atmosphere of Ghana’s fashion scene, he honed his skills, delving into the intricacies of textile design and garment construction.
Ever-conscious of the environmental impact of the fashion industry, he dedicated himself to promoting sustainable practices. He became acutely aware of the problem of dead stock fabrics – unused, surplus textiles that could otherwise end up in landfills. Armed with a firm belief in the green economy and a vision for a sustainable future, he sought to reimagine these neglected materials and breathe new life into them.
With Sierra Leone as his canvas and guided by his values, he created stunning collections that not only captivated the senses but also championed the cause of responsible fashion and conscious consumerism.
As he continues to reach new heights, he remains grounded, always seeking new ways to give back and uplift others. He actively mentors aspiring designers, guiding them through their creative journey and sharing his insights and experiences.
From Nigeria to Ghana, and eventually to Sierra Leone, Emmanuel’s fashion journey showcases the profound artistry and boundless inspiration that can be found within African fashion and captures the essence of Africa in every stitch. With a legacy that promises to transcend time, his story is a testament to the fact that fashion has the power to unite, uplift, and help people become their true authentic self and also ignite inspiration on a global scale.
